PUNJAB Congress expressed concern over rising crime against women and children

Chandigarh, June 18, 2013: Punjab Congress has expressed serious concern over rising graph of crime against women and children belying tall claims by SAD-BJP government on law and order situation.

In a statement issued here today, the Congress Vice Presidents Tarlochan Singh Soond MLA, O.P. Soni MLA, Charanjit Singh Channi MLA, Gurpreet Singh Kangar ex-MLA said that the law and order in Punjab was at its worst during SAD-BJP regime. They said that rising number of cases of crime against children was in particular of serious concern. They said that situation in metro cities of Amritsar and Ludhiana was deteriorating fast. They held Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who also holds home portfolio mainly responsible for poor law and order.

The Congress leaders said that during year 2012 about 877 crime cases against children were registered. In 28 other states are better than Punjab.  They said that Ludhiana and Amritsar cities have reported 24 percent of the total crime cases against children registered in Punjab.

They said that track record of Punjab on crime front was shocking and women do not feel safe in the state. They said that a few months back Patiala woman was thrashed publically by a police official. They said that in most of the cases the action against guilty policemen was taken only after media highlighted the issue.

The Congress leaders said that bad law and order was also keeping investors away from Punjab. They said that the SAD-BJP government had failed to restore faith of people in the police. They said that misuse of police for political reasons had made police force defunct. They said that being a border state, the law and order must be priority of the state government.
