The visually challenged taking out march at Ferozepeur to demand for 1 per cent reservation in government jobs.
Ferozepur, June 8, 2013: The visually challenged demand for 1 per cent reservation in government jobs.
To press upon their demand, the visually challenged activist, Raj Mohan, who himself is a government lecturer in Music, organised a procession from Faridkot to Ferozepur in the scorching heat to submit a memorandum to Kamal Sharma, Punjab BJP President and the Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.
On way from Faridkot to Ferozepur, they were supported by the local citizens and villagers. The main demand is the implementation of the provision of 1 per cent reservation for the blind in government job and this march has been carried out to register their protest on a call given by the National Federation of Blind throughout the country.
Unfortunately, the memorandum could not be submitted to Kamal Sharma who was away to Goa to attend the BJP conference.
While talking to Anil Gupta, General Secretary of All India Visually Challenged Employees Federation said, “The Education Minister is not accepting the recommendations of three departments of Personnel, Finance and Education for converting the 167 posts of JBT teaches into Music Teachers as most of the majority of the visually challenged are having the qualification of music subject, which is most convenient subject for them. Even otherwise, the eligible visually challenged people for other posts are also not considered by the departments still treating them as handicapped.”
A meeting with the Chief Minister has also been sought for the purpose, added Gupta.
