POLICE arrest two bookies

Two bookies in the police net on Saturday. These accused were allegedly betting on the one-day match of the Champions Trophy League played between West Indies and Pakistan.

Ludhiana, June 8, 2013: The police have arrested two bookies from a house in the Salem Tabri area for betting on the one-day match of the Champions Trophy League played between West Indies and Pakistan late last evening.

According to the police, the arrested-accused have been identified as Antarpreet Singh of Nava Mohalla and Pawan Kumarof the Mochpura area.

However, their three accomplices managed to escape from the spot.

The police had conducted the raid following a tip-off. Dharampal, SHO, Salem Tabri Police Station, and Surjit Sing, in charge, investigation cell, had led the raiding party.

A laptop, sixteen mobile phones, a television set and some diaries have been recovered from the arrested-accused.

A case under sections 420, 129-B of the IPC and 13 A/3/67 of the Gambling Act has been registered against the accused.

According to ACP (North) J. Elanchezhian, the preliminary police investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly been indulging into this business for a long time.
