Zee tv- Ashish Choudhary Back on Screen after a Hiatus

Ashish Choudhary.

Turns to Television with Zee TV’s ‘Ek Muthi Aasman’

After a personal setback that had him prioritizing family and business over his acting career, hunky model-turned-actor Ashish Choudhary who was an instant click in Bollywood with comedy films like ‘Dhamaal’ and ‘Double Dhamaal’ is back on screen – this time on television in Zee TV’s new show ‘Ek Muthi Aasman’.

The show promises to give viewers a reality check and an insider’s look into the world of Mumbai’s unsung heroes – the bais! Produced by DJ’s ‘A Creative Unit’, the show will beautifully capture the hopes and aspirations of a domestic worker alongside the trials and tribulations of her daily life. It will showcase how domestic workers devote their own lives to relentless toil only so that their children can grow up enjoying the fruits of education and amenities they could only dream of and live life with dignity in the future.

The story centers around Kamala Bai played by Shilpa Shirodkar who works as a housemaid in the affluent Kapoor household. She delivers her own child Kalpana at the same time that the Kapoor khandan bahu Neelu delivers her daughter Poochi. The show captures Kamala’s journey of putting her own maternal responsibilities towards Kalpana on the back-burner in order to double up as a mother for Poochi since Neelu Malkeen couldn’t bother with the “avoidable” baggage that comes along with being a mother … What develops over the years is a tender bond of motherly love and affection between Kamala Bai and Poochi … even as her heart longs to be with her own daughter Kalpana, for whose education, bright future and every happiness Kamala works so hard at the Kapoor household!

So, where does Ashish come in? Ashish will enter the show as Vikramaditya Scindia, a 30 year old suave, shrewd, sharp-talking advertising agency head. Little is known of his connection with the Kapoor household but there’s something from his past that links him to the Kapoors in ways that even he is unaware of. Given that he runs the most successful ad agency, young Poochi and Kalpana will join him as interns. As a mentor, he will be the man to enable Kalpana to scale her fullest potential. An interesting work dynamic will develop in the office between the trio wherein he will encourage Kalpana to stop seeing herself as subservient to Poochi just because her mother serves as a housemaid in Poochi’s house.

Speaking about the show, Ashish said, “It’s great to be back on screen and that too with such an interesting show.  It is the subject that ‘Ek Muthi Aasman’ broaches that made me instantly take it on. There are over 10,00,000 domestic workers in Mumbai alone whose day starts at the crack of dawn. They set about hurriedly cooking, packing tiffins for their men and children, cleaning, washing, etc. This is a normal day for women everywhere, one might say. Except that these particular women have to leave home and repeat the same cleaning, washing, cooking routine several times over at many other households all in the course of a day. Yet, the Bai remains, perhaps, the most taken-for-granted service provider of the household. Most of us deal with our maids with a casual “we pay her, don’t we?” approach. With this context, I am extremely glad the show is an attempt to sensitize people towards the realities of this underprivileged yet constantly struggling lot!”

So is television Ashish’s new focus post films? “There is no conscious decision on my part to move away from films and do more work on television. I stepped back from a flourishing career in films as a result of my personal crisis. It is now that things are in much better shape that I have decided to come back to my first love – acting. I will continue to take on quality work, irrespective of the medium.”

Here’s wishing Ashish the very best with his new role!

Sukhbir takes up issue of removing of turban of DSGMC president at Rome airport with PM

Author(s):

Chandigarh, August 7, 2013: Sukhbir Singh Badal, President Shiromani Akali Dal and Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab today wrote to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid protesting against the removal of turban of Manjit Singh GK, President Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, who was made to remove his turban at Rome Airport yesterday.

In a communiqué to the PM and External Affairs Minister, Badal said that Sikhs were being deliberately targeted in the airports of Italy repeatedly and Government of India owes and explanation to the country for its complete failure to safeguard the interests of Sikhs despite various hollow assurances. Registering a strong protest in a communiqué to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Badal said that he on behalf of entire Sikh community was lodging a protest over intolerable way Sikhs are treated at airports in Italy and other countries of the world.

Badal said that earlier incident of forcible removal of turban of Commander of Jet Airways at Milan airport and now removal of turban of DSGMC President, representing the Sikh Community of Delhi reflects that Congress led UPA Government was bent upon hurting the sentiments of Sikh community and reflects the Union Government’s utter failure to ensure dignity of Sikhs.

Pointing to the total failure of Congress led UPA government in pressurising Italy government, Badal said that removal of turban of GK at Rome Airport was reminiscent of earlier incident that happened with Ravijodh Singh Dhupia, a commander of Jet Airways, who was forced to remove his turban at Milan Airport. He said that SAD protested against maltreatment of Ravjodh Singh, the Prime Minister had assured that he has taken up this issue with Italy Government and there would not be any repeat of such incident. He said that repeated incidents of deliberate harassment of Sikhs especially in Italy convey an impression that they were being specifically targeted under an agenda.

He said that it was intolerable and unfortunate that the officials deployed on international airports again and again harass Sikhs by removing their turbans under security check excuses. He said that repeated incidents in the Italy have proved that the Union Government has failed to convey to the Italian Government and to the other governments not to remove the turbans of Sikhs. He said that to ask a Sikh to remove his turban was in fact an atrocity on him and all over the world Sikhs in one voice have stood up to call this an act of great violence and cruelty on Sikhs.

The SAD President said that it was surprising that despite several assurances given by the Union Minister of External Affairs in the Lok Sabha such incidents could not have been stopped. He said that earlier Amritinder Singh, Coach of Golfer Jeev Milkha singh was asked by the airport security staff at Milan to remove his turban not just once on his arrival at Milan Airport but also again when he was departing from the same place, which was stark example how Sikhs are being treated at airports in Italy.

Badal said that such behaviours in the airports of Italy were unacceptable to the Sikh community and he on behalf the Sikh community condemn such acts. He said that Union Government should bring the recent incident to the notice of Italy Government and other countries of the world that turban was the most recognisable feature of a Sikhs, unlike other head coverings it was an inextricable part of Sikh identity and was worn by Sikhs at all times to cover their unshorn hair, a mandatory article of their faith.

Lamenting on the Union Government for its complete failure on this issue, Badal said that it was most regrettable that despite our large-scale protest Sikhs were continued to be treated in this manner in USA, France, Australia and many other countries. Badal urged that Union Government should ensure that in future such unwarranted incidents do not occur and special advisories be sent through  all our foreign missions and offices to sensitize about the Turban of Sikhs.

Speaking to media persons after administering oath to 592 Sarpanches and 3297 Panches of the district here today, Badal said that realizing the fact that Prime Minister of India was not in control of situation, every neighbour was entering India with immunity and India was failing to safeguard its territorial borders. He said that every third day China enters India and now Pakistan is gloating after killing five soldiers after entering in Indian territory.  He said that when India failed to give a strong message to Pakistan after barbaric attack on Mumbai on 26/11 and later after beheading of our soldiers, Mr. Badal said that by its repeated incursions Pakistan was exposing the hollowness of future super power India.

Decrying the removal of turban of Manjit Singh GK, Chief of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee at Rome Airport, Badal said that third incident at Italian Airport during last one year shows that Italy cares two hoots for protests of India as it has direct protection of Italian born UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He said that he has already written to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid requesting them to take a strong diplomatic action against Italy for harassing Sikhs on their airports. He said that Shiromani Akali Dal had been raising this issue in the Parliament but Prime Minister was more interested to protect his chair and was not acting against Italy, the native place of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. He said that it was unfortunate that with a Sikh Prime Minister and Sikh lady as Minister of State for External Affairs, the country has failed to protect Sikhs in various countries.

Badal blamed Congress led UPA Government for deliberately creating mining product crisis in Punjab to defame the government with an eye on polls. He said that it was ironical that Union Environment Ministry at the instance of Punjab Congress was delaying the environmental clearance to different mines to create artificial scarcity of the sand and gravel. He said that despite taking up the matter constantly, the Union Environment Ministry was unnecessarily delaying the clearance of mines. He said that within two months situation would be improved.

Charging Union Government of copying Atta-Daal Scheme in food security bill, Badal said that it should have also include Daal with foodgrain in the ambit of food security bill as nobody can survive only on wheat and rice.

He said that the fact is that Congress failed to read the pulse of people whereas five time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who has risen from masses from the post of Sarpanch, Block Samiti Member, Zila Parishad President, MLA, MP and Central Minister knew the felt needs of the people and came out with policies according to the requirement of poor people. He said that Congress believed in five star culture whereas it was Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who came out with Shagun Scheme, Atta Daal Scheme, Old age pension scheme according to the felt needs of the people. He said that it was matter of great regret that Congress instead of supporting pro-people, pro-poor policies of SAD-BJP Government tried to scuttle these policies by petitioning Union Government to stop grants for different schemes. He said that it was laughable that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who decried Atta-Daal scheme a wasteful expenditure by Punjab Government was forced to eat the humble pie by copying Atta Daal scheme into Food Security Ordinance to save his chair.

Announcing expansion of Atta Daal scheme from 15 lakh families to 30 lakh families, launching of Scholarship scheme for meritorious students of Rs. 30000, employability allowance of Rs. 1000 to unemployed graduate youth, Rs. 30,000 cashless insurance to all 30 lakh Atta Daal families, Badal said that we have focused our energy in fulfilling our promises made to the people in elections. He also announced Rs. 1700 crore for repair of village link roads.
