Chandigarh, August 1, 2013: The Shiormani Akali Dal strongly lashed at Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur for being a mute spectator to serial killings of Punjabis in Phillipines and her failure as a minister to put diplomatic pressure on Phillipines to check rising crime against Punjabis settled there.

In a statement issued here today, the SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that it was during the tenure of Preneet Kaur as Minister of State for External Affairs there were repeated violent attacks on Punjabis in various countries where a record number of Punjabis especially Sikhs have been made target. He said that it was unfortunate that  with a sikh lady being incharge of external affairs ministry and Sikh Prime Minister, the country has miserably failed to check the hate crimes against Sikhs as a religious community besides infringement of their right to profess their faith in any country.

He said that the Congress led UPA government failed to pressurise France to lift ban on turban. He said that  even in Australia Union External Affairs Ministry failed to check series of hate attack on Sikh taxi drivers and Sikh students. He said that the largest democracy aspiring to become superpower remained mute spectator to Sikhs being killed in broad day light in the different countries.

Dr. Cheema further said that it was surprising that what to think of summoning the Ambassador of Phillipines to protest against the killings of Punjabis, Union External Affairs Ministry failed to sent one protest letter to Phillipines government protesting against unwarranted killings of innocent Punjabis. He said that the ruler who cannot protect the life and property of its citizens has no right to stay in power on moral grounds.

Seeking public apology for Congress led UPA and specially from Preneet Kaur, Dr. Cheema said that time has come that they should publicly admit that the UPA government has failed to discharge its duty miserably and it has no right to continue in power.

PUNJAB CM okays introduction of cotton pickers on trial basis

Author(s):

Jalandhar, August 1, 2013: In a leap forward towards revolutionising the cotton cultivation in the state to promote agriculture diversification, the Punjab Chief Minister  Parkash Singh Badal today gave nod for introducing highly mechanised cotton pickers in the 53 blocks falling in 10 districts of the cotton belt of the state on trial basis.

A decision to this effect was taken after a high level team from Gujarat gave the demonstration regarding these cotton picking machines to the Chief Minister here late evening.

It may be recalled that during a recent visit of his Gujarat counterpart  Narendra Modi to Punjab, the Chief Minister had discussed the problems faced by the cotton cultivators of the state in picking the harvest, with him. During the deliberations, Modi had assured the Chief Minister that he would soon send a high level team from the state to solve this problem. Likewise on the directions of Modi a team comprising AK Jadeja and Kartik Doshi gave presentation to the Chief Minister regarding the machine. The team apprised the Chief Minister that this ‘handy machine’ with back up eight hours could perform very well during the farming operations.

The Chief Minister asked the members of the team to visit the state during the cotton season in the month of February and give demonstration to the farmers regarding the operation of this machine. He said that if the machines were successful than the state government would launch it throughout the cotton belt of the state.  Badal categorically said that the state government would do everything possible to promote crop diversification in the state.

Talking to the media persons the Chief Minister said that due to the exorbitant hike in costs of farming operations and squeezing margins of profit, agriculture was no longer a profitable venture. He said that the problems of the Punjab farmer have increased manifolds after the centre had announced that they would not purchase the paddy from the state in future.  Badal said that in wake of all these problems the state has embarked upon a major program of crop diversification to encourage the farmers to adopt less water consuming crops like Maize, Basmati, Sugarcane and Cotton.

However the Chief Minister said that apart from assured marketing and support price thrust should be laid on mechanisation of agriculture so that the profits of the farmers could be increased. He hoped that this new technique of Cotton cultivation could go a long way in enhancing the profits of the farmers on one hand and facilitating them for the cultivation of the crop on the other. He said that these machines would be distributed to the farmers for the trail and once it was successful than it would be launched in the state from the next cotton season.

Earlier the Chief Minister also visited the local Sports College to finalise the site for the construction of a special school for meritorious rural students. It may be recalled that in order to ensure congenial atmosphere to the meritorious poor students of rural areas securing above 80% marks, the Chief Minister has asked the Education department to construct six special schools in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, Patiala, Ludhiana and Bathinda. These upcoming School with hostel facilities would start functioning from next academic year.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by MLA Pargat Singh, former MLA and Chairman District Planning Committee Kapurthala  Sarabjeet Singh Makkar, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Gurkirat Kirpal Singh and Director Agriculture Dr. Mangal Singh Dhillon.

FRIENDS Off Camera…

Ashwini Kalsekar and Paridhi Sharma.

At loggerheads on screen, Ashwini Kalsekar and Paridhi Sharma share an extremely warm rapport off screen

Sparks might fly and they might spew venom at the sight of each other on screen, but they are the best of friends once the director yells “Cut!”. Ashwini Kalsekar and Paridhi Sharma who are currently seen as the scheming Mahamanga and Jodha respectively on Zee TV’s Jodha Akbar, are doing an excellent job of keeping their camaraderie hidden from viewers!

Once the cameras have stopped rolling, the two can be found in and out of each other’s makeup rooms, talking, laughing and generally having a good time. When not shooting, Ashwini and Paridhi spend a lot of time in each other’s company. The two are even known to have gone shopping together on one of their days off from the shoot. “They are almost like Siamese twins on the sets. When you see one, the other one isn’t far behind.” Says a source on the sets. “Ashwini often brings Paridhi food from home whenever she goes to Mumbai since Paridhi keeps telling people about how much she misses home-cooked food.

“Yes, I do share a very good rapport with Ashwini ji.” Says Paridhi. “She is like an elder sister and a mentor to me. Ever since we have signed the show together, we have become very good friends. Staying so far away from home does get lonesome at times but with Ashwini around, I am able to forget that. She is someone who I have grown to trust over the last few months. I am so thankful to have her stand by my side through the shoot.”

In stark contrast to their ‘BFF’ status, Ashwini’s character Mahamanga is currently seen as conspiring and attempting to brainwash Akbar (played by Rajat Tokas) not to marry Jodha. Viewers can look forward to ‘Shaahi Saptaah’, a week-long royal Hindu wedding of Jodha and Akbar starting Monday, 5th August, replete with traditional rituals like Muh Dikhaayi, Haldi, Pheras and Grihpravesh.

Watch Paridhi and Ashwini in Zee TV’s magnum opus Jodha Akbar, every Monday to Friday at 8 PM, only on Zee TV.

Author(s):

Ludhiana, August 2, 2013: The real feat in every impeccable triumph is snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. This ought to be the credo of every student, who steps into the ruthless competitive arena, where the best strategy would be to overestimate their competitors in order to push their limits.

STEPS, the alma mater, of thousands of students across India, deeply entrenches this philosophy in the malleable minds of the students, thus transforming them into intrepid and eligible contenders for any career.

STEPS is conducting “AIM NTSE” an All India Mega Event, to galvanise the competitive spirit among students at a very young age. Amit Kumar, the faculty member for NTSE and other Olympiads at STEPS have informed that an estimated number of around 1,500 students are taking the AIM NTSE on August 4, at 10 am in 3 different centres in Ludhiana, namely BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar and Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines.

This is the first such event in the history of Ludhiana, he added. There has been an overwhelming response for the test in the cities of Jammu, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala and Panipat also with an estimated number of 2,500 students.

Students across the nation can also avail themselves of this opportunity of the online version of this test, and Amit Kumar mentioned that they have already registered more than 250 students for the same. The results of the same would be available on august 10.

There would also be a career orientation seminar, at BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, from 10 am to 12 noon, in which parents could interact with experts which would enable them to groom their children’s future.

He has also thanked the management and staff of all the schools for encouraging their students to participate in the test.

The second general house meeting of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana being held on Friday evening.

City Air News photo: Mandeep Kumar Verma/Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, August 3, 2013: A total 16 agenda items were tabled during the second general house meeting of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL), which held on Friday, and most of them were cleared after a stormy session.
Interestingly the meeting started at 2 pm and ended at 7.15 pm.
Heated arguments took place among the municipal councillors on the issue of clash between the supporters of SAD MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon and Independent municipal councillor Daljit Singh Grewal. The municipal councillors belonging to the latter’s faction demanded that the general house should pass a resolution against an FIR registered against Grewal. They also demanded that a copy of the general house resolution be sent to Commissioner of Police Ludhiana so that the FIR be cancelled.
When Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said he would support a resolution seeking an inquiry into the matter many municipal councillors demanded that a resolution for the cancellation of the FIR be passed. Finally, a resolution was passed and it was announced that the same would be sent to the Commissioner of Police for the cancellation of the FIR. It may be mentioned here that following a clash between the supporters of municipal councillor Daljit Singh Grewal and MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon, an attempt to murder case was registered against the former and he was recently released from jail.
On a question raised by Daljit Singh Grewal, the Mayor had to  announced that the development works should be carried out from councillor quota and not out of MLAs quotas.
A municipal councillor Swarandeep Singh Chahal misbehaved with the Mayor during the general house meeting following which the Mayor had to ask him to “mind his language”. Finally, Chahal left the general house meeting after which Gohalwaria urged the municipal councillors to pass a resolution against Chahal so that he could be placed under suspension from the house. BJP municipal councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu supported the Mayor’s demand and said Chahal should be barred from attending at least two meetings whereas some other municipal councillors demanded that Chahal should not be allowed to attend five meetings.
The proposal of converting Shingar Cinema Road, Kashmir Nagar Road, Hambran Road into mixed-land use was put on hold after strong opposition by MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu and SAD municipal councillor Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal. Those opposed the proposal demanded that roads such as Pakhowal Road, Ishmeet Chowk Road, Kaka Marriage Palace Road and Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar Road should also be converted into mixed-land use.
BJP municipal councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu took up the issue of mushrooming of illegal religious places across the city and demanded that these should be checked.
The issue of road cave due to the rains infront of Dhami Eye Hospital was also raised in the House. The road had caved in on June 13. Expressing his views on the issue municipal councillor Balkar Singh Sandhu said laying of underground cables had caused the road to cave in. Sandhu opined that underground cables were being laid in various parts of the city. As a result, lives of residents were in danger. In reply, the Mayor said a departmental inquiry had already been ordered into the matter. He categorically stated that the incident was not an outcome of laying of underground cables. On a demand of municipal councillors, Mayor agreed that a committee comprising of one municipal councillor from all parties would be constituted to inquire into the matter.
Addressing the general house meeting, the Municipal Commissioner, Ludhiana Rakesh Kumar Verma had to clarify that the Lakkar Bridge project could not be completed by July 31. Citing reason for the same, he said some of the prefabricated slabs to be used in the project had got damaged due to rain.

PUNJAB State Election Commission not yet recognised Fazilka and Pathankot as districts

$

Author(s):

Ferozepur, August 3, 2013: The Punjab State Election Commission has not yet recognised Fazilka and Pathankot as districts as is evident from the letter issued by the Election Tribunal of Election Commission on July 13, 2013 under No.SIC-SA5-2-13/6593.

It may be mentioned here that Fazilka was given the status of districts on July 27, 2011 after a long struggle by the citizens and sitting on indefinite hunger strike by Ch. Surjit Kumar Jyani, MLA and Cabinet Minister, Punjab and simultaneously Pathankot was also declared as district.  In the newly constituted districts, DC, SSP and other district level officers have also been appointed apart from the ministerial staff and infrastructure.   Not only this, Additional Sessions Courts have also come up and foundation stone has also been laid down for the new judicial complex on December 8, 2012 by the present Chief Justice and 16 judges.  But despite all these arrangements, the Election Commissioner has not accepted so far Fazilka as the district headquarter.

Considering the basis of notification issued on May 4, 2009 for hearing of election petitions, in the recently conducted Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections

By the Govt. of Punjab Election Local Bodies Election Wing, the stations have been nominated for settlement of the complaints relating to elections. According to this notification, the complainants relating to election of Abohar have been advised to lodge their complaints in the office of DC Ferozepur.  Similarly, Ferozepur complaints in ADC Ferozepur, Jalalabad in Deputy Director Local Bodies, Ferozepur, Zira in SDM Zira have been advised to lodge their complaints.  It looks that the Fazilka and Pathankot has not been recognised as district by the Election Commission and the number of district listed are 18 against 20 district in Punjab.

As per the sources, 45 days time is given for lodging any complaint relating to election while 38 days have already passed to Zila Parishad and Block Samitis and the last date for filing of petition is 10th August.  But as per the directions given in the notification, no complainant is ready to file his complaint by traveling about 100-200 KMs distance to Ferozepur and for the purpose, he has to engage the counsel at that station also apart from visiting on every hearing wasting of lot of time and money. Perhaps, this is the reason that due to this notification, no complaint would now be registered.

The entire team of Zee TV’s upcoming primetime drama ‘Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se’ premiering on August 12 at 8:30 PM.

‘Adjustments in a marriage’ is a universal topic as all around us we see couples striving hard to have a harmonious relationship with their spouses. Adjustment in the relationship occurs between an individual and the environment that he/she lives in. Couples face difficulties when they have to share their lives with a partner who was raised with different values, morals and rules. Whether united by love or an arranged marriage, the adjustment period of a marriage is the crucial litmus test of a relationship.

Premiering on 12 August 2013 at 8:30 PM, Zee TV’s upcoming primetime drama ‘Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se’ lends to this thought beautifully and delves a little deeper into the heart of one such woman who marries a man who is unequal to her in every respect. The story unfolds in Jodhpur where Shivani and Raghu share a master – servant equation respectively. Hailing from two very different strata’s of society, Shivani is a privileged girl who lives a luxurious life with her grandfather Balwant Chauhan. He is an overprotective guardian who has an aide in the house named Raghu.  Circumstances conjure up a situation where Shivani, the girl born to riches is married to an underprivileged Raghu. Like the old saying, life happens to you while you were busy making other plans, the story traces the journey of Shivani…her adjustment with a man who she always thought of as her grandfather’s right hand man and now she has to accept him as her life partner. It’s her struggle to adapt in a household and a lifestyle that is diametrically opposite from what she is used to!

Ajay Bhalwankar, Content Head, Hindi GEC’s ZEEL, said, “The beauty of ‘Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se’ is its simplicity. The protagonists from two different backgrounds had different dreams while destiny etched out quite another plan for them.  The story outlines the lives of Raghu and Shivani who are suddenly bound together by the design of destiny. It’s a wonderful and poignant story that showcases Raghu and Shivani’s journey from resistance to acceptance and embracing their destinies.”

Producer Kalyan Guha and his wife Rupali of Film Farm Productions has signed on an impressive cast for the show. Said Rupali on the occasion, “It’s with Zee TV that we began our television journey with a series called ‘Chausat Panne’ followed by ‘Tumhari Disha’ & ‘Rakhi’. It’s an honor to produce our next show ‘Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori’ for Zee TV. This story narrates the life of a rich girl who gets married to her grandfather’s employee and enters a meager household and learns to adjust to lower middle class life. It’s a situation where she does not wish to belong to. How she begins to overcome the difficulties and build bridges with her husband and his family forms the crux of the story.”

Arhaan Behl will enact the role of Raghu and Mansi Shrivastav will play the female lead, Shivani. Shivani’s grandfather will be enacted by veteran actor, Alok Nath as Balwant Rana. Rucha Gujarati and Vikas Sethi will be seen as Mahima and Jaswant Rana (Shivani’s bhabhi and bhaiyya) respectively. Newcomer Akshat Gupta will be seen as Shivani’s fiancé, Abhimanyu Sanghi. Arhaan Behl said, “I was only being offered roles which were similar to my earlier work. I didn’t want to repeat myself. What attracted me to this show was Raghus’s simplicity.  He is an average guy and doesn’t possess any hero like qualities. I play a simple, lower middle-class boy who is loyal and hard working. He is very down to earth and that is what makes him special.” Mansi Shrivastav who plays Shivani adds, “An opportunity to work with the very popular and talented Arhaan Behl and a veteran like Alok Nath is a huge opportunity for me. Shivani is like a princess in a fairytale who is pampered silly by her grandfather. She has grown in the lap of luxury and has always been protected by her grandfather from the grim realities of life. However, one day, her life changes forever!”

The launch campaign of the show will include the use of audio visual mediums such as TV, DTH and Cable in the Hindi Speaking Markets (HSM). Differentiated properties will be used in DTH such as Shifting LCN, whereby a new channel will be created between any two existing channels where the show related content will be telecast, and Live Streaming where as soon as one switches on their set top box, they will be diverted to ZEE TV. This phenomenon will be on Dish TV and Airtel on the launch day of the show. Marketing initiatives have also been aligned around upcoming movies like Chennai Express. The sustenance campaign will highlight how destiny plays a catalyst in bringing two people together through both on-air as well as off-air mediums.

Synonymous with being a father figure in umpteen serials and films, veteran actor, Alok Nath will now be seen playing a rich grandfather (Balwant Rana) to Mansi Shrivastav. The actor said, “This is my next show on Zee TV after ‘Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli’ where I play a doting grandfather to my grand-daughter, Shivani who has lost her parents. And like every guardian, Balwant Rana’s only dream is to find an ideal groom for her…one who will always keep her happy. It’s a beautiful story that will surely pull at your heartstrings. I hope like ‘Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli’, this show will also appreciated by the audiences!”

Will Shivani find her soul mate in Raghu? How will Raghu accommodate a princess in his middle class household? Join Raghu and Shivani’s journey of coming of age and discovering love  through this bitter sweet drama ‘Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se’, to premiere on Zee TV on 12th August, every Monday to Friday @ 8:30 PM.

DO DIL BANDHE EK DORI SE – Character Sketches

Raghu Saharaiya (Arhaan Behl):  30 year old Raghu was born to lower-middle-class parents in Jaipur. Though he lost his mother at the age of 6, Raghu’s father blames him for her death. Though his father has moved on and remarried, Raghu continues to live with a sense of self inflicted guilt. Despite this, Raghu has o relentlessly strives to ensure the wellbeing of his family.

For several years, Raghu has worked for Ranaji and greatly respects him, often doing more than what Ranaji expects of him. In return, Ranaji also gives him a lot of importance in his everyday dealings, often entrusting him with expensive and important things, documents etc.

Everything changes for Raghu when he’s trapped in a marriage with Shivani – an arrangement that was intended to be a temporary one owing to a certain plan, but ends up being permanent owing to unavoidable circumstances.

Shivani Rana (Mansi Shrivastav): Born and raised in Jaipur, Shivani Rana was born into a family on the fringes of Rajasthani royalty. 20 year old Shivani has been brought up by her paternal grandfather ‘Daaju’ after she lost her parents in a plane crash. Owing to an overtly-protected upbringing Shivani has been totally unaware of the harsh realities of the world outside like human greed & connivance, abject poverty, hard labour, etc.

On turning 18, Shivani was betrothed to her childhood best friend Abhimanyu. With starts in her eyes, she looks forward to a grand wedding and a dream marriage with him. However, when Abhimanyu’s selfish, conniving side is exposed, Shivani is emotionally traumatized – as she had never before witnessed such deviousness and greed in people.

After her marriage to Raghu, a lower-middle-class employee of her grandfather, will Shivani be able to adjust to the relatively deprived lifestyle in his house and surroundings?

Balwant Rana (Alok Nath):Balwant Rana is 70 years old and hails from an extremely rich family on the fringes of Rajasthani royalty. Having lost his only son and bahu in a plane crash, he has brought up his grandchildren Jaswant and Shivani with utmost love and care. He is so obsessively protective of Shivani, that she has never got a sense of the harsh realities that existoutside the comforts of her own family and the elite social circle. He has so many plans for his beloved granddaughter that he has planned out her life in extreme detail – whom she’ll marry, where she’ll settle, and even as to when she is to have kids!

Mahima Jaswant Rana (Rucha Guajrati)

23-year old Mahima is Jaswant’s wife. Learning from the ups and downs of life through her father’s business has made her a very shrewd young woman. She is a woman who is extremely driven to get what she wants. It does not matter to her whether the means are ethical or otherwise, as long as her goals are achieved. More street smart than her husband she is the dominant force in his life. However, she is more of a greedy opportunist than a conniving and backstabbing person. Though she hates that Shivani has a huge share in the family wealth, she greets Shivani with a lot of love and affection whenever she sees her.

Dharamsala, August 3, 2013: The three-day training camp for state delegates of the BJP from across Himachal Pradesh is on at Palampur.
It was formally inaugurated by BJP national president Rajnath Singh on Friday.
Interestingly, Palampur is the home town of senior BJP leader and former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Shanta Kumar, MP.
JP Nadda, national general secretary, Balbir Punj, national vice-president, Prem Kumar Dhumal, Anurag Thakur, national president of the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha and Satpal Satti, state president of the BJP, were among those present at the inaugural day event.
Political observers strongly believe that the three day event for state delegates is likely to bridge the gap between two factions namely Dhumal and Shanta factions. The party’s performance in Kangra district was a poor show in the last Assembly elections because of infighting between these two groups. This was because of the infighting of the two factions that the BJP was able to manage merely 3 out of the 15 assembly seats in Kangra district.
In his inaugural address, Rajnath Singh strongly opposed the Food Security Bill. He believed that it would increase the current account deficit and deteriorate economic condition of the country.
