Jalandhar, May 2, 2013:  BJP national executive member Manoranjan Kalia, MLA, has termed the death of Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh as “unfortunate”.

Sarabjit Singh died of cardiac arrest in a hospital in Lahore (Pakistan) on Thursday after remaining in coma for about a week. He was admitted to the hospital after an assault by the jail inmates.

In a statement here on Thursday, Kalia said it was also unfortunate that all efforts of the Sarabjit’s family to bring him back alive have been shattered.

Further, Kalia said the brutal assault on Sarabjit Singh in the Cell of the high security Jail premises in Pakistan was also “unfortunate” and needed answers to reasons that led to occurrence of the incident.

Kalia said had the Indian Government taken up the matter strongly with Pakistan Government the results would have been something else.

Kalia sought that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh should intervene and take up the issue with the Pakistan Government to bring back the body of Sarabjit Singh for last rites.

Meanwhile, the party’s state media cell convener Rajat Kumar Mohindru has also expressed shock over the Sarabjit’s death. He added though Sarabjit had died yet several questions were unanswered.
