Ludhiana, April 27, 2013: Members of the Government School Teachers Union, Punjab staged a protest rally here on Friday.

Protest was held to press upon their demand that the Right to Education (RTE) Act should be amended. Addressing the protestors, the Union general secretary Parveen said according to the new policy of the government there should only be only one school within 1 km range and if there are more than one school, then they should be merged.

He categorically said the Union is against this policy of the government. He opined that old schools should not be closed or merged. He also sought that the state government should also keep a check on the mushrooming of new schools.
