GOVERNMENTS not watching interests of hotel industry: Garish Oberoi

Ludhiana, April 19, 2013: The Hotel and Restaurant Association of North India president Garish Oberoi has regretted that neither the Centre nor the state governments were watching the interests of their trade.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he added the governments were not considering this trade as the industry otherwise it could get all the facilities that were available for the industry. Besides, the taxes were more, he regretted.

He said now the government took a plea that the issue of multiple taxes would be resolved once GST was implemented but he apprehended that the situation was not likely to be changed. He asserted that there should be flat taxation system in the trade fof further its promotion.

Replying to a question, he told that there had been decline in the trade for the last a couple of years. He said the reasons for the same differ from place to place, adding now there had started a new trend of “walk-in-rate” in the hotel industry in the country. He said this kind of rate got fluctuated with the occupancy rate on routine basis.

On the occasion, a directory from the Hotel and Restaurant Association in Ludhiana was released. The association’s state general secretary Amarvir Singh and president Manjit Nagpal also spoke.
