AROUND 100 participate in BMR Rally

BMR rally being flagged off at Ludhiana on Sunday.

Ludhiana, April 14, 2013: Sunday morning saw the who’s who of Ludhiana come out in numbers in their swanky cars to participate in the `BMR- 2013’.

About 100 participants motivated Ludhianvis for help weaker section being a part of BMR rally.

The chief guest Manpreet Singh Ayali MLA, MF FarooquiDIG Ludhiana and Sachit Jain Executive Director Vardhaman Textiles flagged off the rally. On the occasion, Rishi Dada, Rohit Pahwa Nova, Nalin Mahajan Hippo, Ayush Bhalla were also present.

The participants took part in really with their high end cars. The event was organised by Ludhiana Round Table LRT-188, a part of Round Table India with the support of VRTC, Ludhiana.

The objective of the event was to raise funds for under-privileged children in the education sphere. The event had a punch line “drive with their vision, drive for a cause”. And true to the spirit of this punch line was the enthusiasm shown by the participants and their families.

The route of the rally was around 45 km and it was printed in Braille. Yes, the route could only be interpreted for the driver by a visually challenged person. This is where each car had one visually challenged person sitting in the co-passenger seat working as a navigator. Participants, most of whom were participating in the rally alongwith their spouse and children, were seen making the most of this unique interaction and were delighted to seek the help and guidance of visually challenged children to help them win the rally. The pride on the faces of the visually challenged students was evident through the wide smiles of achievement on their faces.

The participants started assembling at the rally starting point - Carlton Woods, on Canal Road, South City as early as 8 am. After completing the paper work, getting their car numbers, rally stickers etc on their cars and having their breakfast, they were ready for the fun to begin.

The rally route took almost 100 participating cars across the city covering all prominent areas of the city.  The organisers had placed officiating marshals at predetermined points on the route to report the time taken by each car to cover various sectors into which the rally route had been divided. Each sector had to be covered by the participants within a certain timeframe. Completing the sector before or after the stipulated time attracted penalty. The car completing the race with minimum penalty was declared winner.
