Congressmen stage protest against the state government for steep rise in the prices of sand and gravel at Jalandhar on Saturday.
Jalandhar, April 13, 2013: Activists of District Youth Congress (DYC), Jalandhar Central and Jalandhar West and other senior Congress leaders staged a protest against the state government for steep rise in the prices of sand and gravel and other essential commodities. They did a mockery of the state government by holding a roadside shop, selling sand and gravel, mentioning the price list.
Among others, the DYC Jalandhar Central president, Paramjit Singh Bal, Jalandhar West president Rajesh Agnihotri and other Congress leaders including Sanjay Sehgal, Gurbir Bhattal and Sushil Rinku did “sale” of sand and gravel as a mark of the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, they condemned the state government for steep rise in the prices of sand and gravel and other essential commodities. They claimed that during the Congress rule in Punjab a truck load of sand and gravel was available at a price between Rs. 2,000-Rs.3,000, which was not available at Rs. 25,000-Rs.30,000. They regretted that the prices of other essential commodities were also touching new heights. As such, the backbone of common man had almost broken, they said.
