92.7 BIG FM “Avon CYCLOGREEN” spreads awareness about environmental pollution

The 2013 edition of the eco-friendly campaign initiated by Big FM (the radio arm of Reliance Broadcast Network) and Avon Cycles across 42 cities in India was flagged off in Ludhiana on Sunday (9 am).

Ludhiana, February 24, 2013:  The 2013 edition of the eco-friendly campaign initiated by Big FM (the radio arm of Reliance Broadcast Network) and Avon Cycles across 42 cities in India was flagged off in Ludhiana on Sunday (9 am).

The campaign Avon Cyclogreen, was aimed at motivating people to ride bicycles at least once a week.

The rally in Ludhiana started from Sutlej Club and concluded at Cycle Expo Ground, Government College for Girls.

The 1,500 strong contingent of cyclists, many of whom were students, chanted slogan 'cycle chalao paryavaran bachao' (ride the bicycle to save the environment) during the rally.

Earlier, inaugurating the rally, Ishwar Singh, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana hailed the effort and said, "Residents of the city, who are now faced with an ever-increasing problem of traffic congestion and atmospheric pollution, must seriously consider the option of cycling for short distances."

Students who joined the initiative from the various leading education institutes of the city (Guru Nanak Public School, Dasmesh Public School, Teja Singh Savtantar School, Ramgarhia College For Women, Ramgarhia Senior Secondary School, Ramgarhia Girls High School, Dr. Ranjit International High School, Sacred Heart Convent School) also expressed enthusiasm over the initiative and one of them said, "Riding a bicycle is always fun. Parking a cycle is also so much simpler and easier. Since it requires no fuel, it is easy on the pocket".

Ishwar Singh, Rahul Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana and Satvir Attwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Traffic), Ludhiana were the guest of honor on the occasion and joined the bicyclists alongwith Onkar Singh Pahwa, CMD , Rishi Pahwa and Mandeep  Pahwa, Directors, Avon Cycles. Gurmeet Kular, President, United Cycles and Parts Manufactures Association, Vicky Kular, Director, Kular International and Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Group of Education were also present alongwith the dealers of Avon Cycles from across the nation.

Ishwar Singh in his address to the gathering emphasised the need of a special tracks in the city for the safety of the cyclist and said that they will discuss for the feasibility of the project with  Deputy  Commissioner of Ludhiana Rahul Tiwari.

Speaking on the occasion, BIG FM spokesperson said that they are extremely happy to bring in yet another edition of the Avon Cyclogreen to Ludhiana, they as responsible corporate citizens are always on the forefront of taking such initiatives which bring about productive and noble social changes in the growth of the city.

Onkar Singh Pahwa, CMD, Avon Cycles, said that, they are proud to be associated with this great event and will be partnering this event on year on year basis. He added that with initiatives like this they are confident that they will be able to reach relevant masses, creating an impact in the green space.

Elaborate traffic arrangements were made by administration and oganisers for the event, also keeping every aspect in mind to make the Cyclogreen successful and flawless.
