The AAP candidate for Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat HS Phoolka, on Thursday visits Darpan School for Autistic children today at Gurdev Nagar at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, April 3, 2014: The AAP candidate for Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat HS Phoolka, visited Darpan School for Autistic children today at Gurdev Nagar. Meeting the children and the teachers, he discussed their problems and issues. Phoolka said, “It is very disheartening to see that despite the Right to Education Act, children with special needs are turned away from schools in Ludhiana, who lack Special Sections in their schools. These children have constitutional rights like all others, and discriminating them on any basis is not to be tolerated.”

He assured, “The Aam Aadmi party is committed to the cause of special children and their needs and assures special education for them and vocational training so that there is both inclusive education and their inclusion into society as independent human beings.”

Expressing concern over the current state of affairs he said, “The Punjab Government has turned a blind eye towards people with special needs and there are no basic facilities for them at public places. Even facilities as basic as railway station, public bathrooms and schools do not have ramps and facilities for the handicapped.”

The teachers explained that it was due to the negative and ignorant attitude of politicians and the administration that parents of these children feel scared to take their children out and try and give them a normal life. Phoolka assured them that the AAP and he will make every attempt possible to help the disabled lead a normal life with dignity.
