‘SHOLAS’ celebrate Golden Jubilee.

Jalandhar, April 2, 2014: In line with the Indian Army’s noblest of traditions to honour its Great Martyrs and looking after its ‘Veer Narees’, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, General Officer Commanding-in Chief, Northern Command and Colonel of the Rajput Regiment, paid homage to the martyrs of 16 RAJPUT (SHOLAS) and interacted with large number of Veteran soldiers, Veer Narees and widows of the unit.

During his visit to 16 Rajput as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the unit, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, GOC-in C, Northern Command, paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the unit in a solemn and befitting ceremony conducted at the unit. The unit had recently been felicitated by the Army Commander Northern Command Unit Citation for its commendable tenure in the Siachen Galcier. 16 RAJPUT, in its glorious history of 50 years has participated in all major campaigns of the Indian Army. It took active part in the 1971 operations in the eastern sector, has been actively deployed on the Line of Control as well as participated in the Counter Insurgency operations in J&K as well as in the North Eastern states. The unit has recently deinducted from the highest battle field in the world, Siachen Glacier, after a successful tenure.

In a ceremony held to honour the Veer Narees and the Veterans, the General, interacted with the Veer Narees of the unit and noted their grievances, while reassuring them that all necessary measures would be taken to alleviate the same. Mrs Anshul Chachra, President Regional AWWA, distributed financial assistance to the Veer Narees. While speaking to the Veer Narees, she reiterated the resolve of the organisation to continue to support its Veer Narees.

The General Officer, speaking on the occasion said that, as part of a large family in Olive Green, we must learn from the rich source of experience of our veterans and elders and must endeavour to ensure that our veterans are looked after and our Veer Narees receive the honour and place of pride that they deserve for their as well as their husband’s supreme sacrifice made for the sovereignty and honour of our Great Nation.
