GND University College Jalandhar as a model college

Jalandhar, January 7, 2014: Vice Chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar Prof.Ajaib Singh Brar, took a historical decision for making GNDU College, Jalandhar as a model college in the city by providing excellent education that will be in the reach of the students. The construction work of college building of worth Rs.3 crore is started on the birth anniversary of the tenth Guru Gobind Singh. Another building of the same expense will be constructed in the coming year. The first phase of the construction will be completed before beginning of the new session.  The new building will also consist of 2 computer labs. For the continuous power supply a new generator worth Rs.30 lakhs has been facilitated.

The courses related to commerce stream, B.Com (Regular), B.Com(Professional) and M.Com, were introduced in the college in the last academic year 2013-2014. University syndicate sanctioned the proposal of new courses of management, IT and mathematics which will be introduced in the next academic year 2014-2015. The courses will include BCA,BBA, M.Sc(Maths).  Apart from these other courses MBA(2 Years), MBA(5 Years, Integrated) ,MCA(3 Years) and MCA(5 Years, Integrated) are running simultaneously.  University has taken the decision of making new labs, seminar halls, class rooms and providing other facilities to the students.

Considering the financial background of the students, 119 students are exempted from the college fees of worth Rs.45 lakh. Many students are facilitated with different scholarships schemes under which 1 lakh  rupees were provided to them. Under SC and OBC scholarship schemes of the government  70 lakh rupees were also provided to the students as scholarships.  Other 120 cases have been sent under minorities’ scholarship schemes of the government.

Observing the market demand and competition new syllabus pattern will be introduced. Some plans are already being discussed with EDII(Ahmedabad), DST(Department of Science and technology). An Entrepreneurship Development Centre(EDC) is established in the college. A three-day camp on Entrepreneurship Awareness was conducted from November 8-10, 2013. The centre also conducted a Faculty Development Programme on Entrepreneurship Awareness from December 27, 13 to January 7, 14. Forty faculty members of the different colleges attended this beneficial programme.
