SAD announces organisational polls; election of SAD president on August 30

Chandigarh, July 17, 2013: The Shiromani Akali Dal President and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced organisational polls to elect the new body of the party.

Disclosing this, in a statement released from the party head office here today, the SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the election process for electing the new organisational structure would start from August 1. Meetings for the election of Circle and District level delegates as well as the election of state delegates would be held in all the districts between August 1 and 10. He said that a general delegate session to elect the party President and other office bearers would be held on August 30.

Dr. Cheema further disclosed that last time election of the SAD President was held on January 31, 2008 in which Sukhbir Singh Badal was unanimously elected President of the party. He said that recruitment drive to enroll primary members  of the party  was started on March 25 and after successful completion of the process at base level, the process for election of the circle, district and state delegates as well as organisational structure has been initiated.

The SAD Spokesman said that for the elections at the Circle and District level along with election of the state delegates, the observers already appointed by the party for the various districts would act as observers. They has been requested to complete the election process and submit the final list of all the delegates to the party head office by August 14, 2013. After these elections, a state level delegates’ session will be held on August 30 to elect the party President and remaining organisational structure.

He said that as per the party constitution One circle delegate is elected for every 100 general members, 25 circle level members elect a district delegate and state level delegates are elected by the district level delegates and number of these state level delegates is fixed for every district and a total of 445 delegates are elected for the state level.

Dr. Cheema said that party recruits members from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from the delegates from these states, delegates are also elected from various countries at the International level.
