OPENING of liquor vends more than schools in Akali regime: Dewan

Ludhiana, June 1, 2013: District Congress Committee (Urban), Ludhiana president Pawan Dewan has alleged the ruling SAD-BJP alliance government in Punjab of promoting addiction in place of education.

He said this was the number of liquor vends was increasing more as compared to the number of schools in the state. Dewan was addressing a protest dharna staged by the locality residents against the opening of a liquor vend near Maid Di Chakki in the Shimlapuri locality today. Women too participated in a large number in this protest dharna. Protestors shouted slogans against the state government.

The DCC (U) president further regretted that people of the state were becoming addict day by day whereas earlier the state was famous for people’s good health worldwide.

He also regretted that liquor vends were seen opened on each corner of the lane across the city and people were spending a major portion of their earnings on addiction. The use of liquor was becoming a major source of disuniting of the families. He said it seemed as if the business of liquor was on priority of the ruling state government as compared to the future of the state.

One of the protestors Devinder Singh also observed fast as a mark of the strong protest against opening of the vend.

Further, Dewan said the Congress party would continue its fight for cause of people, and warned they could even come on the roads for the purpose.

Among others, block president Palwinder Singh Taggar, vice president DCC Balwinder Singh Bedi, Kamal Sharma (ward president), Dr. Onkar Chand Sharma, Harjinder Singh Om, Yashpal Sharma, Hardev Singh Mankoo, Bibi Jarnail Kaur, Amarjit Kaur Gabria, Paramjit Singh Matharoo, Jaswinder Singh Waraich, Sultan Singh Sodhi, Gurcharan Singh Saggu, Manjit Singh Matharoo, Bahadar Singh Ryait and Bibi Paramjit Kaur, sat on the protest dharna.
