Chandigarh, May 30, 2013: Senior Akali leader and Shiromani Akali Dal Secretary General Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today lashed out at the Congress party for issuing irresponsible statements undermining the status, integrity and credibility of the members of the judiciary in
the country.
Dhindsa also asked the Congress “dubious spokesperson ” Sukhpal Singh Khaira to clarify if his allegation that judges are capable of striking quid pro quo deals with politicians also applies to his uncle, Justice Kuldip Singh who has handled so many cases of politicians? I only hope he is not speaking on the basis of his personal experience. We respect the judiciary and would not like to believe that this is the case, but let Khaira come clean on this.”
Said Dhindsa, “It’s a contempt of court and the Congress owes an apology. I hope the
seniors in that party will act responsibly.”
“The Congress must disown or withdraw and apologise to the entire country in general and to judiciary in particular for the statement in which its doubtful spokesperson has leveled serious allegations about the “startling connections between Justice (Retd) A N Jindal and the
SAD-BJP alliance. Is this the official stand of the Congress that judges in the country are influenced in the discharge of their duties by such quid pro quos?.”
In a statement here, Dhindsa also asked Khaira to clarify if his close relatives, justice Kuldip Singh, had been influenced by these considerations while delivering judgment on cases brought before him . Or did he refuse to take up cases involving any of relatives or friends or anyone closely or distantly acquainted with him? Is the Congress suggesting that no relative of any judge should ever be any profession because eventually their accused relatives would belong to one profession or the other,” said Dhindsa.
The Akali leader also asked the Congress high Command to clarify if in their view, judges in the country were amenable to manipulations because of such considerations. Has the government ever noticed any bias in an judge towards someone related to them? If so, the Government of India prepared any black-list such people and make public their names.
The SAD secretary general asked all political parties to refrain from trying to pressuring the judiciary with such black-mailing tactics.
