Chandigarh, May 26, 2013: Partap Singh Bajwa President Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today strongly condemned the Maoist attack on convoy of Chhattisgarh Congress leaders and killings of many senior Congress leaders including State Congress President Nand Kumar Patel and former minister Mahendra Karma and 16 other party men.
In a statement issued here, Bajwa mourned the assassination of senior congress leaders and expressed sympathies with the families of deceased and injured leaders including former union minister Vidya Charan Shukla who is under treatment. He said that the death of senior party leaders of Chhatisgarh was great loss to the people of state and the Congress party. He said that violence has no place in Indian democracy and culprits must be dealt with an iron hand.
Bajwa accused the BJP government of Chhatisgarh for being complacent towards security of opposition leaders. He said that several Congress workers have also laid their lives in the attack. He said that Nand Kumar Patel and Mahendra Karma were peace loving public leaders and raising voice against anti-national forces. He urged the center government to take firm action against Maoists responsible for the ghastly incident.
While Bajwa conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, the PPCC office bearers held a prayer meeting in the Congress Bhawan Chandigarh and observed two minutes silence in the memory of departed souls.
