Luhdiana, May 16, 2013: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari today condemned the killing of a Congress supporter in village Adampura in Bathinda district during an election meeting.
Jasbir Singh Jassa, a People’s Party of Punjab activist, who was supporting the Congress candidate Milkiat Singh was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in village Adampura falling under Bhai Roopa zone.
He said, it only vindicated the party’s apprehensions that the ruling alliance was resorting to violence and intimidation to hoodwink the political opponents.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Tewari regretted that the Akalis were setting a very dangerous precedent by resorting to such type of violence. Earlier also one of the Youth Congress leaders was killed, while another senior leader was attacked and now they killed another person.
The Union Minister said, the elections are fought by ballots and not bullets. But, unfortunately, he added, the Akalis were trying to turn it into a war of bullets instead of ballots which is wrong for democracy and wrong for the state and must be strongly condemned.
